I don’t think I really came up with any real New Year’s resolutions for 2010, but around the time the year started I decided I wanted to start wearing pants every once in a while, so I suppose that will be one of my resolutions.  I don’t think I’ve worn pants since 2007, when I worked in a coffee shop and couldn’t get away with wearing skirts and dresses.  I just don’t like the way they look on me . . . my body type is all wrong for jeans.  I feel gawky and not my self at all in them.

The thing is, lately I’ve been extra inspired by pants outfits in collection lookbooks and on street style sites.  Trousers with tapered ankles and rolled cuffs looks wonderful, and skinny jeans can look just as elegant as a dress and a pair of tights. Do they on me?  No!  But I want to learn how to put pants-based outfits together, and when I finally found a pair of jeans at H&M this week I knew I’d have to give it a shot.   They are the only jeans I own, besides a 1970s pair of flared jeans my sister Ashley persuaded me to get at a Salvation Army in Fort Wayne, Indiana back in 2004.  They’re even scarier than skinny jeans, though all the old photos of Jane Birkin in her flared jeans that keep popping up on Tumblr are kind of making me want to try them out.  Maybe, eventually!

I was only brave enough to wear these jeans for a few hours today.  Otherwise this weekend I lived in dresses . . . I wore a new striped one from H&M Friday night to a pizza party, and I wore an old one yesterday for a rainy day in at the dance club mall and a dinner party.  Other highlights of the weekend?  Going to Octane twice for coffee (it’s the best coffee shop in town), sabotaging a juke box at a pub and playing T. Rex’s “Raw Ramp” 4 times in a row (I’m obsessed!), enjoying springlike weather today before it got cold and windy again.  Maybe the best part of all was getting the chance to randomly meet two blog readers here in Atlanta.  I was shy and awkward (like usual), but it sort of made my weekend!
